How to get SLA in Azure Devops

Context: A project manager needs to accurately measure the response time for work items in Azure DevOps to evaluate team performance and ensure timely responses to issues or requests.

User Problem: As a project manager, I require an efficient way to track the time taken to respond to work items across various states. This helps in assessing the responsiveness of the team, identifying any delays in handling tasks, and implementing improvements to enhance overall efficiency.

Solution: Calculate the response time for work item is quite simple using Time in State.

  1. Choose the Time in State Report: From the dashboard, select the "Time in State" report option. This report allows you to view how long each work item has spent in different states.

  1. Configure Metrics: In the dashboard, go to the Format tab. Here, you can customize how you want the response time to be displayed. Options include hours, days, decimal days, and business days. Adjust the business day settings to align with your organization's calendar for accurate calculations.

  1. Use Colums: The Time in State app features Columns that allows you to tailor your view by selecting which columns to display in your reports. You can add or remove columns to focus on specific metrics, including response time.

  1. View Response Time: The app will provide a clear overview of the response times for each selected work item. This allows you to track how long it takes for the team to respond to various requests or issues.

  1. Analyze Data: Use the visual reports generated by the app to identify trends in response times. This can help pinpoint areas for improvement, such as team workload, process efficiency, and response strategies.
